Have you ever thought that the law is unfair? Or have you ever thought about why the law has a lot of loophole? And have you ever thought about why someone who did something wrong do not get punished? “Dirty Harry” was a crime film directed and produced by Don Siegel. It was mainly about a police officer who tried to catch a killer, who had killed innocent people for many times. Furthermore, the main theme of this film is about a law that has a loophole for the guilty people to be free. There were several scenes that referred to the rights of human beings, which was in this case claimed as the way to let the guilty person, the killer, go. We can easily notice the theme of the film from two main scenes, which were the scene when Harry, the main character, finally catched the killer, and the killer said that he has the rights of having a lawyer to represent him even though everyone knew that he was completely guilty because we can see that he had killed many people before, and he should not even ask for the second chance. In addition, another scene that we can see the main theme was the scene when the chief of police told Harry that they would let the killer go and Harry do not agree with that statement because the killer will kill again and he was too guilty to be letting go, but because Harry broke into the killer’s home illegally and tortured him to obtain a confession about a girl he kidnapped, he was released without any charge and punishment. Harry also said the line “Well, the law is crazy”, which clearly linked back to the main theme.
Moreover, the film showed the difficultly of being a good policed and how polices devoted themselves to their duty and to protect people. For me, “Dirty Harry” was a great crime film that introduced the idea of violence and a little drama of a police’s life…
